One-week summer courses

Our one week violin making courses occupy The Workshop for seven weeks from early July to the beginning of September. Some experienced amateurs have been coming for many years, but newcomers with no previous experience are warmly welcomed. Such mixed classes allow new makers to see instruments at different stages of construction. We encourage students to bring their own tools if they have them - although this is not essential, as The Workshop is amply equipped with all the tools you will need. A range of suitable woods and fittings are also available.

Daytime/evening classes

Courses run on a ten week term either side of Christmas with some additional classes running after Easter. Costs for these courses vary, but fall somewhere between 120 & 170 per term. Materials as needed are extra.

An open day is held, normally the last Saturday in September, for those interested in joining classes, and for those who merely wish to look around the workshop. Pupils work is displayed, there is a small exhibition of the stages of making a violin, and current pupils working on their latest instrument.

For more information refer to the course schedule.

The workshop welcomes makers of all abilities including complete beginners with no woodworking background as well as more experienced amateur makers.
